The ‘Last of England’ cardigan, complete with a scissor motif, takes inspiration from the final scene of Derek Jarman’s 1987 art-house film. It ends with Tilda’s character, The Maid, mourning her executed husband on Dungeness beach. Diamanda Galás sings as The Maid, dressed in a bridal gown, screams and tears at her dress with industrial scissors. The image is breathtaking.

HADES studio collaborated closely with Swinton at every step of the design and manufacturing process. This process culminated in a collective June visit to the HADES manufacturing factory in Scotland, where Swinton met with the craftspeople who create the knitted jumpers and scarves in this collection.

The ‘Last of England’ cardigan forms a bold set with the accompanying skirt in matching print.

The knit has been handcrafted in Scotland by Sharon, Shirley, Finlay, Sandra, Moira, Allan and Kevin.

Every piece will be gifted with a zine that includes 3 essays on the films that inspired this collection and a manifesto for the protection of U.K. fashion manufacturing.
